Career and Technical Education (CTE) in Sullivan County Schools offers students a valuable opportunity to explore their interests, develop real-world skills, and prepare for success in both college and high-demand careers. Formerly known as vocational or technical education, CTE has evolved into a modern, rigorous program of study designed to align with the needs of our local workforce and regional economy.

CTE programs consist of carefully sequenced courses that equip students with the technical knowledge and employability skills required for success in today’s competitive job market. These programs are approved by the Tennessee State Board of Education and are fully aligned with the state’s academic standards.

In Sullivan County, CTE is available to students beginning in middle school (STEM) and continues through high school and into postsecondary education.

  • Middle School: Students are introduced to a variety of STEM career pathways through exploratory courses that help build a strong foundation for future learning.

  • High School: Students can dive deeper into a chosen career theme or area of interest through hands-on learning, technical instruction, and work-based experiences. Many programs offer the opportunity to earn dual enrollment or dual credit, participate in pre-apprenticeships, or gain real-world experience through work-based learning.

  • Postsecondary Pathways: High school CTE programs are designed to transition seamlessly into further education, whether through Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology (TCATs), community colleges, universities, apprenticeships, or entry directly into the workforce with industry-recognized credentials.

CTE empowers students to graduate with a clear plan for their future—whether that includes continuing education, entering the workforce, or both. By aligning classroom instruction with real-world applications, Sullivan County’s CTE programs help students build confidence, competence, and career readiness.

We are proud to support students as they explore their passions and take meaningful steps toward a successful future.
