WBL Program

At Sullivan County Schools, we are proud to offer a robust catalog of Work-Based Learning (WBL) opportunities designed to help students bridge the gap between the classroom and high-skill, high-wage, in-demand careers across Tennessee.

Work-Based Learning is a proactive educational approach that allows students to apply academic and technical knowledge in real-world settings. By engaging in meaningful workplace experiences—whether in-person, virtual, or simulated—students develop valuable, transferable skills that prepare them for success in postsecondary education and their future careers.

According to T.C.A. § 49-11-901, Work-Based Learning is defined as the application of academic and technical knowledge in a work setting that involves actual work experience. This formal definition helps ensure consistent and high-quality WBL experiences for students across the state.

WBL in Sullivan County is not a one-size-fits-all program—it’s a continuum of experiences that meets students where they are and helps them grow. The journey begins with career awareness, followed by career exploration, career preparation, and culminates in on-the-job training. Throughout this journey, students receive personalized support through career navigation and advising services, making sure each experience is tailored to their individual interests and goals.

Whether students are just beginning to explore career paths or are ready to gain hands-on experience in their chosen field, Sullivan County Schools provides the tools, resources, and opportunities they need to thrive—both now and in the future.
